What member of Congress is a direct descendent of Benjamin Franklin?
a. Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin , D-Md.
b. Rep. Michael N. Castle , R-Del.
c. Rep. Allyson Y. Schwartz , D-Pa.
d. Rep. Jim Gerlach R-Pa.
Answer: b
Rep. Michael N. Castle , age 69, is a 7th generation descendent of founding father Benjamin Franklin, a 6th generation descendent of Franklin’s daughter Sarah Franklin Bache.
CQ’s Politics in America says: “The 6-foot, 4-inch Castle was a basketball star in high school. He went to Georgetown University Law School after college, ‘sort of because I didn’t know what I was doing.’ In private practice, he worked for a former Delaware attorney general who encouraged him to take the part-time position of deputy attorney general, a post he assumed at age 26.”
A Delaware native, Castle later went on to serve as a state legislator (House and Senate), lieutenant governor and governor before becoming the state’s at-large congressman in 1992.

Comments
Mike Castle has voted with Bush to undo much of what Ben Franklin stood for. Ben Franklin would be ashamed of his descendent is he was alive today..
