Answer: a. In 1966, Congress and President Lyndon B. Johnson officially designated Waterloo, N.Y., as the birthplace of Memorial Day. Waterloo and other cities and towns began celebrating the holiday shortly after the Civil War ended, as a way of honoring those who died in that conflict; back then, the holiday was known as Decoration Day.

If we care about honoring our men & women, this would never be a trivia question. We would all know how and why decoration day started. Oh by the way, Memorial day is May 30th.
