The results are in: Brews are definitely beer-partisan

The big winner at Wednesday’s second annual Brew Across America was Missouri Republican Rep. Ann Wagner with her “Big House Brew,” which might have had a home-state advantage.

“Thanks to Anheuser-Busch for giving us such a great opportunity to create and share a beer that showcases local Missouri agriculture and is perfect to crack open on a hot day after work,” Wagner said in a statement.

In addition to Wagner, a number of other lawmakers made appearances themselves, including Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Rick Scott of Florida.

As Cruz was preparing to tout his “Ale-vengers” brew from an Anheuser-Busch facility in Houston, Scott interrupted to talk up his “Orange Blossom Ale” from Jacksonville.

“Texas has been a great state to compete with. I do like to win though,” Scott said.

While Scott has the help of Florida oranges, Cruz had Texas grapefruits.

“The top two producing breweries for Anheuser-Busch in America are St. Louis and Houston,” Cruz told HOH. “And look, whether it’s cheering on the Astros, cheering on the Texans or cheering on the Rockets, we enjoy a good cold beer and we enjoy a good laugh, and we could use a little bit more of both in D.C.”

Cruz said Caroline, his 11-year old daughter, named his beer.

“She is so into ‘The Avengers’ right now, and to be honest the whole sixth grade is really into ‘The Avengers’ right now,” Cruz said.

Cruz wasn’t the only Texan to give the Lone Star State some love. Rep. Dan Crenshaw won the “People’s Choice” award with his One Eye-PA — a nod at his, well, one eye. The Texas Republican notably wears an eyepatch after he suffered a combat injury in Afghanistan as a Navy SEAL.

“Cheers to Houston’s Karbach Brewing for partnering with us to make an awesome IPA,” he said in a tweet.
