Sewell and Duncan Bet on NCAA Championship

South Carolina and Alabama lawmakers had bet on last year’s game, too

Clemson University is back for a rematch against Alabama University in the NCAA football championship and Rep. Jeff Duncan is as well.

Duncan played football at Clemson in the mid-1980s and last year bet on the game against Rep. Terri A. Sewell, D-Ala.

The loser of this year’s bet has to buy the winner Chick-Fil-A and wear the winning team’s swag for a photograph.

“It’s exciting to have the Clemson Tigers back in the Championship game against a familiar foe, the Alabama Crimson Tide,” Duncan said in a statement. “Though the Tigers ended last year with a bitter taste in their mouths, we’ve used that disappointment to grow and fuel the fight back to the top again.”

Last year, Duncan wore a houndstooth hat, a staple of the late Alabama coach Bear Bryant, and an Alabama necktie for a picture on the Capitol steps after Alabama beat Clemson, 45-40, in last year’s game.

“There is no other team in the country I’d rather play than Alabama,” Duncan added. “It’s a great opportunity to win back some lost pride, and an even greater opportunity to have Rep. Sewell on record with photo evidence wearing Tiger orange. GO TIGERS!”

The South Carolina Republican graduated in 1988 with a political science degree. Sewell grew up in Alabama, but is a Princeton alum.

The championship is at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., at 8 p.m. Monday night.
