Former congressional candidate Michael Eggman is starting a new group to achieve what he could not do alone: flip House seats in California from Republican to Democrat.

Eggman is launching the “Red to Blue California” political action committee Monday, targeting seven House Republicans who represent districts in the Golden State that Democrat Hillary Clinton carried in 2016.

As the national parties turn their attention and money toward a vulnerable California House Republican, the campaign has taken a turn for the worse. 

Incumbent Rep. Steve Knight and Democratic challenger Bryan Caforio have been trading insults and accusations over deceptive campaign practices, sexual harassment allegations against a former staffer, and collusion with outside groups.

With a comfortable lead in her Senate campaign, California Attorney General General Kamala Harris is turning her attention to helping some down-ballot Democrats in their races.

Most polls show Harris beating 10-term Rep. Loretta Sanchez, by double digits. The two Democrats finished 1-2 in the state’s open primary to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.
