Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said Tuesday a hearing earlier in the day on “sanctuary cities” would likely be the first part of a process that will lead to legislation for cities with laws and policies that provide safe-havens for illegal immigrants.

“I expect there will be legislation that will be offered, hearings on that and my hope is we’ll be in a position to vote a bill out of the Judiciary Committee and present it to the majority leader for his consideration in due course,” Cornyn said.
