Republicans Grill Comey On Clinton’s Classified Emails
 

The House Oversight and Government Reform committee held a hearing Thursday grilling FBI Director James B. Comey on his announcement that the FBI would not be recommending charges against Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server.

Comey defended the impartiality of his decision, saying “the recommendation was made the way you would want it to be, by people who don’t give a hoot about politics.”

The Select Committee on Benghazi released an 800-page report Tuesday detailing its findings on the 2012 attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya that resulted in the deaths of four Americans. During a press conference, committee Chairman Trey Gowdy declined to assign specific blame to Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, saying he’s “not in the business of apportioning culpability. I think there’s enough to go around.”

Shortly before the House Select Committee on Benghazi recessed for lunch Thursday, ranking member Elijah E. Cummings, D-Md., challenged Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., to release the full transcript of Sidney Blumenthal, a longtime confidant to Hillary Rodham Clinton, following a series of questions by Gowdy on the topic.

The back-and-forth, which at times veered in to a shouting match between two top committee members, ended abruptly when Gowdy recessed the committee, telling Cummings to “wait until the next round [of questioning]” for more on Blumenthal.
