One of the most high-profile communicators on Capitol Hill — and in social media —  is leaving to go back to writing under her own name.  

Amanda Carpenter, who has been the communications director for Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, in his Senate office since October, announced Tuesday in a message to colleagues that with her boss's presidential campaign team running full-speed ahead, she plans to return to conservative commentary.  

Twitter's Most Popular Congressional Staffer Gets New Title

Sen. Ted Cruz has a new communications director in his Senate shop, but it's a familiar face. Amanda Carpenter, the most-followed congressional staffer on Twitter, is getting a title that aligns more with her recent duties.  

Not surprisingly, Carpenter, who has been senior communications adviser and speechwriter — highlighted the new title in a Tweet:

Just as there was a glimmer of hope late last month that House Republican leaders would try to pass an immigration overhaul this year, Sen. Ted Cruz and his staff mobilized to extinguish it. It was a one-two punch that showcased the stature of one of the Texas Republican's top aides.  

While Cruz countered House leaders' rollout of their immigration principles on conservative outlets like Breitbart News, Amanda Carpenter, who helps formulate and amplify Cruz's message as his senior communications adviser and speechwriter, slung slices of red meat on Twitter.
