Following President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union Address, Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., told CQ Roll Call he liked Obama’s appraisal of the United States’ role in the Middle East going forward.
In a rare move Monday, the Obama administration criticized the government of Saudi Arabia, with Press Secretary Josh Earnest saying mass executions that have generated anger across the Middle East are reflective of "a government that is not doing enough" to address concerns about its human rights record.
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday criticized GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., calling it “totally unworkable.”
“King Abdullah of Jordan, a great friend and ally of ours, would presumably not be able to come to the United States,” McConnell said. “How about President Ghani of Afghanistan, a great friend and ally who would not be able to come to the United States.”
