Education March Draws Teachers, Parents to National Mall to Protest Funding Cuts

On Saturday, hundreds gathered in sweltering heat at the Washington Monument to rally against potential cuts to public education funding. Organized by one current and one former teacher, the March for Public Education, which included a walk to the Department of Education, was billed as politically inclusive. With a large swathe of education groups and teachers in attendance, the speakers and many signs indicated a dissatisfaction with the current administration’s education policies and Education Secretary Betsy Devos’s support for charter and private schools and overall education cuts.
