Answer: b) Parker Griffith, a Democrat, defeated Republican Wayne Parker for the seat in Alabama’s 5th Congressional District that was left open by the retirement of nine-term Democratic Rep. Robert E. “Bud” Cramer .

Hunter, the son of retiring 14-term Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter , defeated Democrat Mike Lumpkin to keep the seat in California’s 52nd District in GOP hands.

Guthrie successfully defended another open Republican seat by defeating Democrat David E. Boswell to succeed retiring Rep. Ron Lewis , who has represented Kentucky’s 2nd District since a special election in 1994.

Heinrich took over the seat in New Mexico’s 1st District by topping Republican Darren White in the race to succeed Republican Heather A. Wilson , who left open the seat she has held since 1998 for a Senate primary bid that failed.
