When It Comes to the Udall-Smith Clan, Blood Really Is Thicker Than Politics
By Alan K. Ota, CQ Staff
Sen. Gordon H. Smith of Oregon may be one of the most vulnerable Republican incumbents in the 2008 election.
But he’s getting encouragement from two Democratic Senate hopefuls who happen to be his second cousins: Reps. Mark Udall of Colorado and Tom Udall of New Mexico.
Although they represent different parties, the lawmakers are quietly rooting for one another in their respective races. Smith is bidding for a third term.
“We definitely check in with one another,’’ said Mark Udall , adding that the three often talk and will try to collaborate on legislation if they end up serving together in the Senate.
“No doubt about it, blood is thicker than water,’’ said Tom Udall .
Smith’s mother, Jessica Udall Smith, was a cousin of Mark’s father, the late Rep. Morris K. Udall, D-Ariz. (1961-91), and his brother, former Rep. Stewart Udall, D-Ariz. (1955-61), who is Tom’s father.

Spare me.
And religion is thicker than blood...
This will be interesting but I hope that the good senator from oregon gets fired in '08.the other two are "ok" for now.but who cares about what I think. I'm all the way in new jersey.lol
It's not too late for Gordon Smith to wise up and join the winning (Democratic) party for 2008. It's probably the only thing that can save him. Learn from the experience of Lincoln Chafee! He should dump those Bushite losers.
