Unidentified Clinton Delegates Try to Buck Biden
By Phil Mattingly, CQ Staff
Delegates who supported New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton ’s presidential campaign said they were approached Sunday by other Clinton delegates seeking to block the vice presidential nomination of Delaware Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr.
Attendees at a labor delegates caucus said they were asked to sign a petition designed to undercut Biden and replace him on the ticket with Clinton, who had many supporters who wanted her to be Obama’s vice presidential pick,
None did. But none would identify the would-be insurgents, either.
“I am a Hillary Clinton delegate,” said Mike Sundin as he stood outside the caucus meeting in his black and yellow International Union of Painters and Allied Trades T-shirt adorned with Obama buttons. “I’ve been asked to sign petitions. I’ve been asked to join in some kind of protest to try and forward her through this.”
Sundin, who traveled to Denver from Esko, a northern Minnesota town near Duluth, said he refused to sign the petition, which he said was offered to him by other Clinton delegates, whom he declined to identify further.
Sundin added, “I’m taking my marching orders from her campaign and she’s made it clear that she is going to support Sen. Obama and I’m going to follow through. When she releases us, there’s no holding back.”
Ruelle Parker, a Clinton delegate and member of the United Steel Workers in Grove, Texas, said hadn’t been approached personally, but had heard of a number of people making moves to block Biden.
“There are a lot of people that are still hanging on,” Parker said. “I think she could have killed a lot of that early on, but she didn’t.”
There was unanimous support for Biden among those emerging from the caucus meeting who agreed to be interviewed.
But even for those, thoughts of Clinton lingered.
“There is an uncertainty among Clinton delegates right now,” said Beverly Smith Dore of Beaufort, S.C., a member of the National Education Association. “I just hope in the end we will emerge as a more unified party.”

As a proud Hillary supporter I can't stomach the idea of voting for Barack. McCain 2008 Hillary 2012
@uNIONIABEL You can't stomach voting for Obama? So you want a Pro-Life President? That's McCain. You want a President that undercuts our teachers and sells off our public education? That's McCain. You want a president that lets jobs bleed overseas without consequence? That's McCain. You want a president from the party that gave us Nixon, and Bush? That's McCain. You can either vote for a Democrat, or you can vote for a Republican, but DO NOT make that vote an emotional protest that doesn't consider the issues.
Given that I doubt you truly are a Democrat, and are probably just a 23%er, I'll laugh. But if you were a democrat who is going to vote for Mcsame, happy unemployment! Because if you think he's a friend to you, your union, or your job, you are delusional. I'll bet you probably screamed at Nader supporters, and now the irony is lost on you. Clinton Democrats you have a choice. You can vote democratic, and change the horrid course this country has been on, or you can help the republicans continue to destroy our country, our Constitution, our rights, and your jobs. AThe list really is to long, but if you really want to vote for McSame, the only thing you are getting revenge upon, is this country. So just stop, and realise that you do have a choice, and if you vote McSame into office, I don't want to hear you complain in a year or so about how bad things are, you got what you deserved.
Those alleged Hillary supporters that would sell out the country to soothe their bruised vanity by voting for McCain and 4 more years of Bush are unpatriotic egomaniacs. This election isn't about one person, it's about saving our nation. GET OVER IT!
Everytime I read or hear of someone threatening to vote for McCain out of spite, I'm reminded of the immortal words of Col. Henry Blake. "Goddammit, Hot Lips. Resign your goddamn commission."
* * Obama will lose this election! * *
uNIONlABEL Here's a little info that you really need to comprehend. 1st, Four more years of a Republican president will tilt the balane of power in the Supreme Court to a far right majority. Goodbye any and all progressive legislation that has been passed in our lifetime or that could be passed. 2nd, if a large number of Hillary supporters use their disappointment at losing in 2008, how do you think she can swing Obama's supporters to support her in 2012? You're basically saying that you're voting for another EIGHT years of George W Bush.
I am an avid Hillary supporter. However, the thought of McCain as Prez is unbearable to me. I really would like to vote for BO. But, I would like to see something happen FIRST -- STOP THE ATTACKS on Hillary and her supporters, PLEASE! The more that you attack, the more that you antagonize and further alienate them AWAY from BO. Don't y'all get it? I was a Hillary blogger for over a year, and dealt with ruthless, relentless, sexist, misogynistic attacks daily from BO supporters. This overall attitude hasn't changed much at all. As a matter of fact, the disparaging remarks continue. If you want to change that dynamic, YOU, THE Obama supporters must at least behave decently with respect towards the Hillary supporters. Otherwise, they may just stay at home in November or vote McCain. Seems to me, the burden is on BO and his supporters to turn the tide.
First I would like to say we had a very good 8 years when Bill Clinton was in office. Very good indeed! Can anyone tell me why a lady who received 18 million most popular vote-isn't running for president?? 18 million that was the most ever--more than anyone else ever received. I believe that "they" are afraid to let Hillary run--because people will cry "racist" and that would not be fair. I also believe that the people who cry "racist" are truly the one with the problem. I believe and treat everyone the same--no matter of age-color-sex. Like I have taught my 13 yr old, we are different outside but all the same inside. I think that Hillary should be put on the ballet to be voted for!! 18 million popular vote--doesn't that say anything?! If the voters have a say so that counts--then listen to it and put Hillary on the democrat ballet. Cathy Citro
I am a die hard CLINTON SUPORTER- as 95 % of my hispanic brothers and sisters... It's sad that she wasn't even considered to be on the VP ballot.. !! It's sad to see that because of this Mccain will get most of the Hispanic Vote & we'll end up with another Republican in the house.. But Obama chose this route ! ! so be it. ! ! Blacks only care for themselves. ! ! at least Clintons have proved it int he past that they can get the job done ! ! shame that SExism it's ok in the new millenium... The democrats practically gave the elction to Mccain when they chose Obama .. !! Shame on the Democratic party !! We could've had it.. ! ! but we're not ! ! remember my words come election day !! do you think the south will ever vote for a black man... think about it.. we;re not ready yet.. !!!!!
Gina Garcia: Just because someone doesn't support Hillary does NOT make them a misogynist. That is absurd as calling you a racist for not supporting Obama. Please get over it already and stop with the name calling. If you stay home and not vote because you're bitter over "Obama supporters" then when McCain takes office I can blame YOU.
How in God's good name does one respect people who put gender and/or race above country? At 74, I'm still willing to learn.
Why are you people wasting your time arguing with a Republican? These people who claim they were Clinton supporters and cannot support Obama are NOT Democrats. They are Limpball's Zombies who take their marching orders from NEOCONS who only care about their wallet and NOT this country. If you truly are Democrats... GROW UP!!
you cant stomach voting for barack, well go vote for Mccain and dont complain when your sons and daughters go to war and saty over there, you republicans di it to yourselves. its time for a change, stop looking at his color and lidten to his words. mccain will create wars because he has lived his life 73 years, he doesnt care about fighting and wars, I want a change. anyway God is behind barack and no matter what attacks or tricks are played, he will win, youll see
