Shays Will Still be Pushing Campaign Reform
By CQ Staff
Former Rep. Christopher Shays has joined the board of directors at the Campaign Legal Center.
The Connecticut Republican (1987-2009), who lost his re-election bid last year, was one of the primary sponsors of the landmark Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002.
Shays should be a nice fit for the board, given his long-time relationship with the Legal Center, which was founded in part to defend the campaign finance reform law in the courts. Shays also has worked with the legal center in a number of cases, challenging the Federal Election Commission’s implementation of the law.
“Christopher brings an invaluable breadth of hard-won knowledge and expertise with him and the hands-on experience as a reformer in both the halls of Congress and the courts,” said Trevor Potter, Campaign Legal Center president and general counsel. “His passion for public service and dedication to reform, even in the face of tremendous odds, will be valuable assets on the distinguished panel that currently makes up the Legal Center Board.”
