Sen. Robert C. Byrd is said to be responding well following his hospitalization over the weekend for what was described today by is his office as a “minor infection.”

According to a statement issued late this morning by the West Virginia Democrat’s office, Byrd. 91, was hospitalized late Friday afternoon as a precaution after there was “a spike in his temperature” caused, his doctors said, by an infection.

“He is being treated with antibiotics, responding well and is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days,” the statement said.
