House GOP Preps Midterm Message
By Alan K. Ota, CQ-Roll Call
House Republicans are devising a political platform — informally dubbed “Ten for ’10”— to better position their party for the 2010 midterm elections — a moniker oddly reminiscent of the game plan Speaker Nancy Pelosi used to mount the Democratic takeover in 2006.
Several senior Republicans said the party would draft a policy agenda that stylistically — certainly not ideologically — mirrors the half-dozen policy objectives that Pelosi, D-Calif., unveiled as the “Six for ’06” platform before that year’s midterms.
While GOP leaders would not discuss the specifics of the emerging agenda, they said it will make the case that Republicans are better suited to revive the nation’s economy. “We are going to lead to an economic narrative for ’10 that will ... prove to the people that we deserve to lead,” said Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia.
Tom Price of Georgia, chairman of the House Republican Study Committee, said members of the conference are coming up with recommended policy planks that would provide voters “a commitment to accomplish certain ends.”
Among proposals floated so far by members: a ban on spending unused funds from this year’s economic stimulus law (PL 111-5), tougher earmark disclosure requirements and an “all of the above” climate change plan that would expand offshore oil drilling.
Last year, Republicans adopted the platform of their presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona. In advance of next year’s midterms, they face internal pressure to develop a unified message to rebut anti-incumbent criticism generated, in part, by conservative “tea party” rallies.
GOP leaders showcased last week a one-page “no new taxes” pledge by centrist Republican Dede Scozzafava, the leadership-backed candidate in the Nov. 3 special election to replace former Rep. John M. McHugh , R-N.Y. (1993-2009), now Army secretary.
Scozzafava faces tough competition both from Democratic lawyer Bill Owens and from a conservative third-party rival, Doug Hoffman,, who has the backing of the Club for Growth and former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas (1985-2003).

There are many like me who will NEVER vote Republican again until you COMPLETELY change your platform which only serves corporate America. In addition, your economic platform is ridiculous, since your party is the one that put our nation in peril to begin with--beginning with the faulty Iraq war, the dismissal of Afghanistan, the corruption at all levels, and essentially attempting to destroy our country. You underestimate the complete disgust of many Americans who were Republicans previously and who now hate your guise of caring for the American people.
Unreal - the republicans have zero original ideas. They even have to steal election strategies from the Dems. I imagine they'll run on their tired old fiscal and social conservatism bull again - they're proven failures at both - and at governance and legislating in general. The wound is still too raw - the majority of Americans remember exactly what landed us in these messes we're in now. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice shame on you.I
The spectacular..arrogance..of the Republican party..knows no bounds.. 'We Deserve to Lead'..?? WOW! How exactly is it that..you "Deserve" to lead, Mr. Cantor? How? The simple reality is this: The Republican party..can do all the 'Rebranding' they want..they can spin..and F.E.A.R. monger..and do the whole crooked show...but the BOTTOM LINE..has become intensely...savagely...obvious to the MAJORITY of Voters..To Wit..the Republican party will NEVER..."Add" "Acceptance Of Cultural Diversity" to their..'Platform'..period! Secondarily..the Republican Party..is now just..simply KNOWN..to be..utterly..corrupt..contemptuous of those they claim to "Represent"...basing entire political agenda's on FEAR..and F.E.A.R.! They are Corporate Lobbyists...and..even using the RATIONAL..'So are the DEMS.." even with that excuse..the Republicans are WAY out in front in terms of "Bought And Paid For"..10 to 1..maybe more...seemingly DAILY scandals..of the MOST..HYPOCRITICAL...nature... So..what we REALLY see here..is an actual 'Example'..and a pretty good one...of this "True Believerism" that infests the Republican Collective Mind..that they 'Deserve" to have "The Power".. becasue...? well..WHY? Becasue they 'Deserve It'..Oh..okay! That is..INSULTING... Obama HAS Blown It..he really has...given up perhaps the greatest opportunity in history for real progress..but that in NO WAY means the VOTERS..will simply..IGNORE the HATE..the CORRUPTION..the almost Psychotic NEED for POWER...the GREED...the incredibly ANTIQUATED 'Solutions".."Offshore Oil Drilling?" Are they JOKING? It's that they THINK that we do not see that as simpy MORE Corporate Corruption..that is so annoying..and arrogant.. True Believers...as alway's.."Attacking Russia In The Winter"..doomed from the start..the ONLY 'party" that ahs a chance..is the one that FULLY..and COMPLETELY..embraces the "Plank" of CONSTITUTIONAL PROGRESSIVE.."First and Foremost..the Constitution and Acceptance of Cultural Diversity"..THAT..is the platform for the Majority of Gen.Boomer, Gen X, Gen Y..and..enough of the remaining G.I. Generation.. WAKE-UP! Until you accept fer example.."Gay Marriage"..you CANNOT WIN!..Period!
Eric Cantor's leadership is to copy the Pelosi playbook??? Talk about a party with absolutely no ideas.
The only thing united about the Republicans and the far right is their mutual love of Faux News.
How ridiculous, the party of no ideas are now attempting to copy a page book from the party of new ideas, and yet we still leave them in the dust. They not only have no new ideas, they truly don't think about their actions. The rethuglican tent keeps getting smaller and smaller and while they desperately fight to find a solution they keep resurrecting the tired worn and failing, trickle down economics, and eliminate taxes for the rich, borrow against their grandchldrens future and eliminate care for the poor. Nice family values.
