Kaufmann, Burris Moving Up — Fast
Democrats Ted Kaufman of Delaware and Roland W. Burris of Illinois won’t be the Senate’s least senior members much longer.
Senate Democrats would like to swear in Democrat Michael Bennet on Thursday to replace Colorado Democrat Ken Salazar , who was confirmed as Interior secretary on Tuesday. Bennet, who was picked by Gov. Bill Ritter Jr. , is likely to be the first senator sworn in by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr .
Bennet, the superintendent of Denver’s public school system, will serve out the last two year’s of Salazar’s term, which began following his election in 2004.
The pressure, meanwhile, may be building on another governor, New York’s David A. Paterson , to appoint a replacement for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton , who is expected to win confirmation Wednesday as secretary of State.
She plans to resign as the junior senator from New York once she’s confirmed by the Senate.

Comments
Ted Kaufman is junior to Roland Burris and if his appointment date counts, then Burris is senior to the whole freshmen class in the Senate.
If Al Franken ever gets seated, will he be junior to Burris? Although given Franken's juvenile manner, I suspect he's junior to everyone in one sense or another.
I don't think so: Burris sworn in until after the freshman class, so while he may more senior than Kaufman and soon to be sworn in Bennett, he is not more senior than the freshman class.
