Romney Leads In PAC Fundraising
By Alex Knott, CQ Staff
After spending millions of his own money during his unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney apparently has learned a thing or two about fundraising.
Romney’s political action committee, Free and Strong America PAC Inc., is leading all other politician PACs in receipts this year with more than $3 million.
Romney’s committee pulled in $440,000 during the month of October, besting the efforts House Majority Leader Rep. Steny H. Hoyer ’s, D-Md., AMERIPAC, which corralled $271,000 in receipts and Rep. Eric Cantor ’s, R-Va., Every Republican Is Crucial (ERIC PAC), which took in $118,000 for the month.
In all, politician and leadership PACs raised more than $1.4 million during October for a year-to-date total of more than $33 million, according to a CQ MoneyLine study of monthly reports filed so far.
The public will have to wait until the end of January to find out how several other politician PACs are doing in fundraising including former Republican Gov. Sarah Palin . Most leadership PACs file quarterly reports with the Federal Election Commission.

Sure Romney contributed to his own '08 campaign, but even without his own money, he still managed to raise more than all the other GOP contenders, except for Rudy - and they basically tied. So I guess he was already very adept at fundraising. I
Just for clarification: Romney did know a thing or two about fundraising DURING, the '08 campaign. If you did not include one cent of his own money he still out performed his competitors in the fundraising aspect. He is just continuing to do so with his PAC now.
"former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney apparently has learned a thing or two about fundraising. " ....Um, aside from using his own money during 2008, he was also the top fundraiser back then. He's learned nothing new, just implemented his already-proven skills.
Alex Knott apparently has yet to "learn a thing or two" about the 2008 primary campaign. Romney led the field in fundraising without even considering his personal contributions.
Romney has got to be the most overrated candidate in this country. I am a Conservative who voted for Huckabee in the primary and voted for McCain in the general (only because he picked Sarah). I wish Romney would just go away. He is nothing but a Massachusetts liberal who changes his views everyday. Like Kerry he is a flipflopper.
Mitt Romney is EXACTLY what our country needs now. With the financial mess our nation is in, we need someone who knows and understands the economy. I can think of no better person than Mitt Romney. We were foolish not to run him in '08...we could have saved ourselves a lot of grief.
I agree with MaryAnn. Mitt Romney is the only GOP candidate with the experience and background to fix this mess. If it wasn't for Gov. Christ endorsing McCain at the last minute, Romney would have been our nominee and possibly the President. I for one cannot wait until 2012. Let's hope the party is smart enough to nominate the right person. The Party needs to rally around 1 individual and do it quickly when the time comes. If not, it will be difficult to take down the Obama machine regardless of how low his approval numbers are. As of now, there's only one person who can do that and its Mitt Romney.
Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall make no law, that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States".
