Senate Affirms Obama’s U.S. Citizenship

Recently reignited theories raised by a fringe movement convinced that President Obama is not a U.S. citizen — and thus is ineligible for the office he holds — have not gained traction among Obama’s former Senate colleagues.
So it’s not surprising that, with no debate and by voice vote, the Senate on Tuesday adopted a resolution (
The language was part of a three-page, nonbinding resolution sponsored by Hawaii Democrats Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka honoring the 50th anniversary of Hawaii’s statehood. It is identical to language the House approved, 378-0, in a separate resolution (
Inouye also mentioned Obama in floor remarks, noting that “the first African-American president of the United States was born and raised in downtown Honolulu” before going on to assert that “Hawaii is much more than hula dancing, beaches and nice weather.”
The House resolution, sponsored by Neil Abercrombie , D-Hawaii, was approved with the help of seven of the 10 Republican lawmakers who have helped inflame doubts about Obama’s citizenship.
Those GOP legislators, who have taken up the cause of the so-called “birther” movement, have sponsored a bill that would require future presidential candidates to provide copies of their birth certificates when they file papers to run for the office.

The malicious motive(s) of "birther" kooks aside, this brouhaha really boils down to this: Does (or should) "natural born" recognise both "right of soil" and "right of blood" (even if Obama were born in Nairobi or Jakarta his late mother is a US citizen, as well as both of McCain's parents), or only the former? (I know of NO nation-state at this time where nationality by parentage is not recognised, though plenty of nation-states, such as Austria and Germany, pay no deference to nationality by location)
They might just as well pass a "resolution" stating that the Earth is flat and the Universe revolves around it... such a resolution ignores facts at hand and are meaninless. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink. If anyone can look at a logical " 1+X=3 " and refuse to use that as evidence that... IF TRUE... X MUST = 2 because they don't "feel" comfortable in doing so... because it might "offend" 'X' or '2'...then how can we expect them to logically look at... 1. all records that would feature citizenship of origin (university records and all) are all purposfully hidden. 2. He DID live overseas when he was a kid under a differnt name. 3. His Father was from another country and never a US Citizen and 4. His mother was traveling at the same time he was born... and conclude that "we NEED to unemotionaly solve for 'X' in this matter" and they conclude that "we DO NOT need to definatively solve for 'X' in this matter" Because we might not "feel right" in doing so... then ... well our Constitution IS infact a relic of a once great nation that has been destined to be dismissed and forgotten in the present, and for all history. I say LET.. no.. MAKE the truth be known. Show ALL records, not just partial records. (ex "Cert. of live birth" vs. "The copiously signed and noted "Birth Certificate", all university and immigration/passport records to settle this once and for all. I'm unemotionally unaffraid of either "obama '12" as well as "biden'09".... are you?
My dear logicvsemotion, I want some of what you're smoking. Really. I was born in Ohio. I then lived overseas, for most of my life, in fact; I moved here for college after graduating from high school overseas. By your logic, *I* would not qualify to be president, despite the fact that I am 1. over 35 and 2. a natural born citizen of the United States. The current citizenship rules require parentage or birth for citizenship. Mr. Obama has *both* parentage *and* birth. (Honolulu is a state in the United States, despite the fact that many people who visit Hawaii tend to forget that (I've lived in Hawaii, too, and witnessed first hand the people who call there and ask if we can do some medical procedure which is available "back in America" as if Hawaii isn't, in fact, in America). You belie your name in your willful ability to ignore facts in order to accommodate your emotional dislike either of Obama the politician, or (dare I say it) Obama the black man in the White House. Grow up. Your boys had three decades to make America into what you wanted, and did a decent job of ruining the place. Me, I am ready for some liberty for *all*, not just for nice decent Christian people.

Did any of them require that he submit the long form od his birth certificate, his school records, his medical records, his passport from 1981? What a bunch of panty waist book lickers. If you think we are on the "fast track to socialism" then you really must be joking. All that is being proposed is a modern health care system equivalent to that used by every European nation and Japan. If "socialism" means adopting a modern health care system used by just about every capitalist nation then so be it. Also the Hawaiian government has repeatedly certified the birth records but some people will not be happy until the man is out of office. The birthers are outrageous.
Obama's Eligibility to be President Use of the term "birthers" to describe those who doubt and challenge Obama's eligibility mimics a common childhood tactic: calling your opponent names to win an argument in the absence of facts. The facts: 1) Obama's true long form birth certificate has not been provided for examination; 2) the DNC during the election campaign posted on its website an image of a computer-generated Hawaii certificate of live birth - which proves nothing even if it were authentic, and it has been exposed by experts as fraudulent; 3) transcripts and official records from his college days (which could shed light on whether he was registered as a U.S citizen) have never been released; 4) several lawsuits have been filed to obtain his records; some cases have made it to the U.S. Supreme Court; others have been dismissed for plaintiff "lack of standing". Framers of the U.S. Constitution, to insure loyalty, required Presidents to be natural born citizens. Laws in effect at Obama's birth in 1961 specified that if a child was not born in the U.S. or its territories, at least one parent had to be an American citizen for five years after turning 14; Obama's mother was 18 at his birth, too young to confer his citizenship. Obama in his book states that he was born in Hawaii (a U.S. Territory in 1961), yet there is ample evidence that he was not - evidence that he was born in Kenya. Critics of "birthers" ridicule the movement as conspiracy theories. One should ask, instead, about whether there is a conspiracy among Obama's administration, his adoring media, and politically correct politicians and judges, to stonewall the public by sitting on the story and reporting nothing about it. Until very recently the silence has been deafening! Why won't Obama just release his true long form birth certificate and his college records for examination - so we can all see that this has just been a silly misunderstanding? Isn't that what a legitimate candidate and U.S. President would do? The problem with not releasing these documents is that Obama is seen by growing numbers of Americans as hiding evidence that he is not Constitutionally eligible to be President. This feeling progresses to doubts that anything Obama says is true. Doubts are increasing about his loyalty to the U.S., based on his statements to, and treatment of our adversaries versus our traditional allies, and his apparent trashing of our Constitution and turning our system away from market-driven to socialism. Enough talk about "birthers"! Let's see Obama's true long form birth certificate (if it exists) and his college transcripts. Obama, pick up your phone and make that happen.

Why has President Obama prevented the release to the American public of his long-form original birth certificate listing the hospital of his birth, the attending physician and the identity of his parents, as recorded at the time of his birth? What information is on the original, long-form birth certificate that President Obama does not want the American people to see? Seems if there are questions and Obama should provide the answers. Oh and lawsuits were filed BEFORE the election questioning Obama legality so he needs to answer so we can start the impeachment proceedings NOW!!
What is Obama hiding? His own grandmother is on videotape confirming her presence at his Keyan birth. That his mother was American means nothing and proves the boot lickers' ignorance of the law. She was too young to confer citizenship if he was not born in Hawaii. Where is the Birth Certificate?

I don't know if any members of Congress have actually read the whole bill - John Conyers mocked citizens who had the affrontery to suggest he do so - but I'd like to know if you have read any of it. There are some lovely passages about making the old folks receive counseling immediately, and every five years thereafter - more frequently if they have health problems. Do you know what this counseling consists of? Trying to convince the seniors they should forego any more treatment for the good of the country. Yes, that's right. Granny should die for your sake. Complete bull$%#t Show the documents to a Senate Committee or the Supreme Court for unanimous validation and the issue will be done. How hard is that? And at what point did showing legitimate ID to verify a Constitutional REQUIREMENT, become a only fringe group's interest?! I had to show birth certificate/passport to get my driver's license, which I had to show to get a dang library card or blockbuster card.... There is no verifying body in government, I guess it's always been the 'honor' system... but now we need to see what's being hidden. This is almost laughable. The Senate cannot just declare that someone is a natural born citizen of the United States and make it so. If that were the case, they could do so for anyone born in any country. Suppose in 2012,Arnold announces that he's just been informed that he's really the son of an American GI who was stationed in Austria after World War II.Wikipedia does list that his father there had suspicions about his mother.The above would make him as eligible as Obama is.

What makes this issue an important one is that he is -or- he is not a 'natural born' American citizen. This man, in taking the oath of President of the United States swore to uphold and defend the Constitution of the united Stataes of America. BUT, he won't show us his birth certificate. Instead, he has spent more than 1 million dollars in legal fees to prevent it from being revealed. What has been shown by some is a not so well done forgery. It defies common sense to say Obama won't release his BC and other historical documents just because, "he doesn't have to."
Citizenship is not enough. The Constitution requires that the president be a "Natural Born" Citizen, the highest category of US citizenship. "Natural Born" Citizenship requires birth on US soil, AND both parents must be US citizens. (See Vatell's "Law of Nations" and other sources.) Mr. Obama has stated that his father was born in Kenya. Therefore, Mr. Obama is not eligible to be president of the US. (Unless he lied about his father.) See how simple this is? No conspiricy theory. No racism. Just the facts!

Birthers be gone!!! You're arguments are ridiculous, and are completely unfounded. There's not one shred of evidence that obsolves the President's natural born citizenship status just because his father was Kenyan subject to British rule at the time of the President's birth. If anything that would make the President a dual-citizen, but his dual-citizenship status expired in 1982. Besides, there's no proof whatsoever that the President swore allegiance to any other country. Under U.S. Immigration and Nationalization laws of 1952 which were in affect at the time of the President's birth, he would have had to do something of his own accord in order to have his U.S. citizenship and, thus, his natural born citizen status by virtue of his mother, Ann Dunham, being a natural born citizen herself, revoked. There is legal precedence to support that a person's natural born citizenship status is not predicated solely by the father as the birthers would have one believe. (See "Minor v Happersett" for details). Simply put, the law is on the President's side here: U.S. Constitution, Art II, Sec. 1. (re: "natural born citizen) U.S. Constitution, 14th Amendement, para. 1 (affirms U.S. citizenship and their "juridiction" within the U.S. under state and federal law) U.S. Constitution, 14th Amendment, para. 3 & 5 (the authority of the Congress to affirm U.S. citizenship) Hawaii state law 338-5, -16, & -17.8 (laws dealing w/birth registration within the state of Hawaii) The Health Information Privacy Act of 1999 (law forbiddin hospitals from disclosing birth information) U.S. Immigration and Nationalization Act of 1952 (as the laws apply to the President and his mother at the time of the President's birth) U.S. Supreme Court case, "Minor v Happersett" (court ruling on women's sufferage, their right to vote as a U.S. citizen and affirming a woman legal "jurisdiction" as a "natural born citizen of the U.S.") I've provided every law and legal precedent that affirms this President's rights to privacy as they apply to his birth records, as well as the laws that affirm both his U.S. citizenship and his natural born citizenship status. Read up, folks!
I really do not understand why the President doesn't just produce his birth certificate. This is truely a black and white issue. Either he has an Hawaiian Birth Certificate or he doesn't. Produce the certificate and take the issue off the table. JMO
You "birthers" and crazy conspiracy theorists make no sense to me! Hawaii became the 50th U.S. state in 1959, two years prior to Obama's birth. Both of one's parents DO NOT have to be U.S. citizens in order for one to be considered a "native born" (or "natural born") U.S. citizen. In fact, neither of a person's parents are required to be U.S. citizen in order for one to receive U.S. citizenship--all that is required is that one be born within the borders of the U.S. However, if one is born outside the borders of the U.S., he or she can be conferred U.S. citizenship if at least one of his/her parents is a U.S. citizen. For example, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is considered a "natural born citizen" of the U.S. by birthright citizenship. He was born in California, was raised in Mexico City, and went to school in Massachusetts. His mother was Mexican, and his father an American citizen due to his parents' nationality, but was born in Nicaragua. My father was a permanent resident of the U.S. when I was born, and later became a naturalized citizen when I was two years old. Simply because my dad wasn't a U.S. citizen at the time of my birth doesn't make me a citizen of his native Chile....I was not born there, nor have I ever been there. If I ran for president someday, I'm sure all the right-wing fringe groups would come up with more "birther" conspiracies speculating that my Chilean-born father and my white mother from Augusta, GA, traveled to Chile, and that I was therefore born in Chile and ineligible to be president. I think all of this "birther" crap is ridiculous! Simply because you don't like President Obama, his policies, or the fact that there's a black man in the White House, doesn't give you an inkling of proof that the legitimacy of his citizenship, whether birthright or parentally-conferred, is questionable. You can find Obama's Certificate of Live Birth all over the Internet, as well as newspaper clippings/articles announcing his birth in Honolulu in 1961. I do not blindly support Obama by any means, and while I did vote for him last November, I am actually unhappy with some of the things he's done in office thus far.
