Kyrsten Sinema crossed the finish line like a boss at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France, this past weekend - and she has the triumphant photo to prove it.
The Democratic senator's Instagram post Thursday makes the rest of us mortals (i.e. me) exhausted just looking at it - she's throwing up a high-five after competing for seven hours. (The only thing I can do for seven hours is sleep.)
Appropriately sporting what appears to be two french braids, Sinema called the course, which combines a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run, "challenging" and "filled with the fastest women on the planet." She came in 271st in her division according to race results.
Heard on the Hill caught wind of the senator's participation when she previously posted a photo on her Instagram story with a group of women decked out in bright gear. The caption read “Betty Squad” — a nod to her hot pink athletic couture designed by Betty Designs, an apparel company that makes “badasses feel beautiful,” according to Instagram.
Sinema also showcased Betty apparel in this year’s ACLI Capital Challenge when she flew through the finish line, winning the title as the "fastest woman in Congress." The Capital Challenge’s 3-mile distance was a light “snack” for the Arizonan who has completed three full Ironman races at this point. She most recently broke a personal record in the New Zealand Ironman, finishing under 13 hours, according to Runner's World.
Participation in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship is “by qualification only” which means Sinema likely didn’t sign up because she was bored one day — she had to earn her spot.
"I’m so grateful for this day of joy, gratitude and *hard* work!" reads her most recent post.
The senator's spokesman did not immediately respond to Heard on the Hill when we asked what was next on Sinema's race agenda.
