When asked why legislation to defund Planned Parenthood was not included in the omnibus, Speaker Paul D. Ryan said Thursday that that will be accomplished through a reconciliation bill in January of 2016.

Speaker Paul D. Ryan previewed the House’s 2016 agenda Thursday during his first major address as speaker, highlighting policy areas where he says Republicans can and should offer bold legislative solutions.

McConnell Won’t Guarantee Vote on Ex-Im
 

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did not promise floor time to consider a reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank on Tuesday, but suggested the legislation could be attached to a long-term highway bill. 

“For the Ex-Im supporters, of which I am not one, I gave them an opportunity on the highway bill and the supporters got 65 votes,” McConnell said. “So that’s — it’s pretty clear there are a significant number of senators who support it. The way to achieve Ex-Im, if it’s going to be achieved in the Senate, would be in the context of the highway bill."

During the weekly House leadership colloquy Thursday, Minority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, D-Md., condemned House Republicans for trying to mark up reconciliation bills repealing the Affordable Care Act and defunding Planned Parenthood.
